Billie Eilish Announces Secret 3D Project With Director James Cameron

Billie Eilish is collaborating with acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron on a mysterious new project, the singer revealed during the first night of her four-date run at Co-op Live in Manchester, England. Speaking to a sold-out crowd on Saturday, July 19, Eilish offered a few cryptic details, hinting that the project is being filmed during her performances in the city and involves Cameron’s signature use of immersive technology.
“So you may have noticed there’s like more cameras than usual,” Eilish said to the audience during a break in her set. “Basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with James Cameron.” She also noted that the Titanic and Avatar director was in the venue that night, observing the performance in person.
Eilish’s statement suggested that filming would continue throughout her stay in Manchester, which includes concerts on July 20, 22, and 23. “You and me are part of the thing that I’m making with him,” she told fans, adding with a laugh, “Also, I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.”
While neither Eilish nor Cameron has offered further details about the nature of the project, Eilish confirmed one key detail: it will be released in 3D. Given Cameron’s reputation for pioneering cinematic technology and Eilish’s own reputation for pushing creative boundaries, speculation is mounting that the collaboration could result in a full-length concert film or an experimental visual piece combining music and narrative.
The Manchester performances are part of Eilish’s ongoing Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour, supporting her third studio album of the same name, which was released in May, receiving widespread critical acclaim and commercial success.
Though the collaboration with Cameron remains under wraps, the presence of an expanded film crew during the Manchester dates has led many fans to speculate that the artist is capturing a cinematic experience of the live shows. Cameron, known for his high-concept and visually ambitious films such as Avatar, The Abyss, and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, has rarely ventured into the world of music, making the partnership all the more intriguing.
Following her Manchester dates, Eilish is scheduled to perform in Dublin on July 26 and 27. She will then head to Japan in August for two shows, before returning to North America in October for the U.S. leg of her tour, which runs through late November. The U.S. stretch concludes with a two-night stand at San Francisco’s Chase Center on November 22 and 23.
Eilish has also been surprising fans with a series of unexpected cover performances during her European dates, including Paramore’s “The Only Exception” in Paris and Radiohead’s “Creep” in Amsterdam, both of which have gone viral on social media.
As for the Cameron collaboration, fans may have to wait for more details, but the announcement adds another layer of excitement to Eilish’s already ambitious 2024–2025 tour. Whatever the final project turns out to be, it marks a rare convergence of two creative forces at the top of their respective fields.
