Charli XCX says she is completely fine if her next album does not perform well, and that attitude might be the very thing that makes her one of the most interesting voices in pop today.

After spending years on the edge of the mainstream, Charli finally reached a new level of recognition with Brat. The album was energetic, chaotic, and well, brat. It captured the feeling of late nights, digital culture, and authenticity without apology. Now, instead of trying to repeat that success, Charli is ready to move forward creatively, even if the results are less commercial.

In a recent interview, she explained that she does not feel pressured to match what she achieved with Brat: "I don't really feel the pressure because I feel that you can never really do the same thing twice. My next record will probably be a flop, which I'm down for, to be honest."

This mindset is nothing new for Charli, who has always embraced risk throughout her career. Although Brat became her most acclaimed release, it was never made with mainstream approval in mind. Instead, it resonated with fans through its simple concept, from the songs to the cover art. The album also sparked "Brat Summer," a viral cultural moment defined by a striking lime green aesthetic that became instantly recognizable.

The album went on to earn eight Grammy nominations and won three, including Best Pop Vocal Album, confirming Charli’s position as one of the pop favorites.

Still, she seems more interested in artistic freedom than in chasing another big moment. This approach reflects the same creative spirit that shaped earlier projects like Pop 2 and Vroom Vroom, where she explored new sounds and ideas without focusing on commercial success. Alongside her solo work, she has also written hits for other artists and influenced a new generation of experimental pop musicians.

Beyond music, Charli is expanding into film with a lead role and production credit in The Moment, a mockumentary she created for A24.
