Gwen Stefani Honors Her Solo Legacy at the 2025 American Music Awards

Gwen Stefani returned to the American Music Awards stage on May 26 with a performance that bridged the past and present, celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby., Stefani opened her set with “Swallow My Tears,” a recent track from her latest record Bouquet. Introduced by her husband, Blake Shelton, who called her “my one and only,” The moment added a sense of intimacy before she moved into a set of early solo favorites.
From there, she moved into “The Sweet Escape” and “Hollaback Girl,” reimagined with a marching band arrangement that gave the song a fresh rhythm without straying too far from its original tone, with the crowd responding right away, singing along to words that had once defined a cultural reset in pop.
Her set was part of a program that brought together multiple generations in conversation. The 2025 AMAs featured appearances from Janet Jackson, Gloria Estefan, and Lainey Wilson, among others, creating a lineup that placed long-established voices alongside newer ones. Hosted by Jennifer Lopez and held at the newly opened Fontainebleau Las Vegas, the ceremony marked the return of the AMAs after a two-year hiatus.
Earlier in the year, Stefani reunited with No Doubt at the FireAid benefit concert, performing songs like “Just a Girl” and “Don’t Speak.” It was the band’s first time on stage together since Coachella 2024.
