Journey have announced the Final Frontier Tour, a North American farewell run marking the end of more than 50 years on the road. The tour, long discussed by members of the band, will begin Feb. 28 in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and continue through July 2 in Laredo, Texas, with 60 dates already confirmed and additional shows expected.

The tour focuses largely on secondary and tertiary markets, continuing the band’s tradition of extensive national touring even in their final chapter.

Founding guitarist Neal Schon described the tour as a way to close a significant chapter while acknowledging the longevity of the band’s catalog. “This tour is our thank-you to the fans who’ve been with us through every era,” he said. “We’re bringing a new production and a setlist that reflects the full scope of the music.”

Schon noted that while Journey is retiring from touring, he intends to continue making music independently: “The sentiment and spirit of the band will always remain… This marks a farewell to one chapter, not the end of creating.”

Keyboardist Jonathan Cain added: “It’s been an incredible ride. We’ve shared this music with millions, and this tour is about gratitude and connection — one last chance to experience it together.”

Background and Internal History

Journey’s announcement arrives after several years of reduced activity and internal strain. Formed in 1973 by former members of Santana, the band became one of the most commercially successful rock acts of the late 1970s and 1980s.

Their trajectory shifted in 1987, when vocalist Steve Perry stepped away from public life. A short-lived reunion in 1996 produced Trial by Fire, but touring plans collapsed due to Perry’s health. Subsequent years saw multiple lineup changes before the arrival of Pineda in 2007.

The band has also navigated internal litigation, including disputes between Schon and Cain that surfaced through public filings and social media, as well as a prolonged legal battle with longtime rhythm section Ross Valory and Steve Smith, who were dismissed in 2020.

Despite instability, Journey maintained a demanding touring schedule for decades, often sharing bills with acts such as Def Leppard, Heart, and Toto. Their activity diminished in 2024, and they have not performed since April 24 in Cleveland.
