Kelly Clarkson has joined a growing list of artists capitalizing on their music legacies by selling a portion of their song catalog. The singer-songwriter and television personality has struck a deal with HarbourView Equity Partners, a media-focused investment firm, to hand over partial ownership of her expansive body of work.

The deal was officially announced Thursday, though specific details remain undisclosed. Neither Clarkson nor HarbourView have shared the financial terms of the agreement, nor have they clarified the size of the stake acquired or the precise rights transferred in the transaction. However, the acquisition reportedly includes a portion of Clarkson’s most notable hits, such as the chart-topping “Since U Been Gone” and emotional ballad “Because of You.”

In a statement, Clarkson reflected on the personal significance of her music. “My music is such a huge part of my journey, not just professionally, but personally,” she said. “Knowing these songs will continue to be heard and discovered by new generations means everything to me. I’m grateful to HarbourView for valuing and supporting this catalogue the way they do.”

Sherrese Clarke Soares, founder and CEO of HarbourView, emphasized Clarkson’s cultural and commercial impact, praising her not only as a singer but as a multifaceted entertainer. “Kelly Clarkson is a one-of-a-kind artist whose voice and songwriting have left a permanent mark on music and pop culture,” Soares said. “Her catalogue is filled with anthems that have defined moments for millions of people. We’re thrilled to partner with Kelly and help ensure these songs continue resonating for decades to come.”

HarbourView has been active in building a diverse music portfolio, acquiring stakes in catalogs across genres and generations. The firm currently manages music assets and royalty interests for a wide range of artists including T-Pain, Christine McVie, Luis Fonsi, Wiz Khalifa, Kane Brown, and Pat Benatar, among others. The addition of Clarkson’s catalog further solidifies its standing in the world of music IP investment, a sector that has gained increasing momentum over the past few years.

Clarkson, who first gained widespread recognition after winning the inaugural season of American Idol in 2002, has since released ten studio albums and earned multiple Grammy Awards. In 2023, she released her latest album Chemistry, a record that chronicled themes of personal transformation and heartbreak. That same year, she launched the first of two Las Vegas residencies, underscoring her ongoing appeal as a live performer.

Beyond her music career, Clarkson has become a staple on American television. She has served as a coach on NBC’s The Voice across multiple seasons since 2018 and launched The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2019, a daytime talk show that has earned critical and popular acclaim. NBC recently announced that Clarkson will return to for its upcoming 29th season, reuniting with fellow coaches Adam Levine and John Legend.

The sale of music catalogs has become an increasingly common move among artists, both legacy acts and contemporary stars, as a way to monetize their work and ensure its longevity. For Clarkson, this partnership marks both a financial milestone and a strategic step in the preservation and promotion of her musical legacy.
