Gene Simmons is recovering at home after a car accident in Malibu on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 7). The Kiss co-founder and bassist, 75, reportedly fainted while driving his Lincoln Navigator along Pacific Coast Highway, causing the vehicle to drift through several lanes before colliding with a parked car.

According to NBC 4 Los Angeles, the crash occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene, where Simmons told officers he had briefly lost consciousness. His wife, Shannon Tweed, later told reporters the episode may have been linked to a recent change in his medication and dehydration.

“The car went through multiple lanes before hitting a parked vehicle,” Tweed said. “He was taken to the hospital as a precaution and released later that day. He’s resting at home and doing well.”

Simmons left a voicemail for NBC 4 confirming his condition, saying he was “fine” and referring to the crash as “a minor fender bender.” A representative for Simmons echoed the message in a statement to Rolling Stone, assuring fans that “Mr. Simmons is totally fine from this minor incident.”

Tweed added that the accident might finally convince her husband, who has admitted in interviews that he dislikes drinking water, to stay hydrated. “It’s something he needs to take more seriously,” she said.

Despite the scare, Simmons is expected to move forward with his upcoming commitments. In November, he and longtime bandmate Paul Stanley will reunite for Kiss Army Storms Vegas, a three-day event that includes an “unmasked” electric performance and appearances by special guests.

The Las Vegas gathering marks a notable return to the stage just two years after Kiss wrapped their “End of the Road” farewell tour, which was billed as their final series of concerts. The event will combine live music with fan experiences, archival displays, and Q&A sessions, a continuation of the band’s legacy as one of rock’s most enduring brands.

In December, Kiss will also be honored at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. The recognition marks a milestone for a band that once defined shock rock, blending theatricality and showmanship with arena-scale ambition. It will also be the first ceremony under President Donald Trump’s leadership of the institution.

While former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley publicly supported Trump in 2020, Simmons has offered more mixed views on his political career over the years. Still, the bassist described the Kennedy Center recognition as a moment of pride rather than politics.

“Kiss is the embodiment of the American dream,” Simmons said in a statement. “We’re honored to receive this recognition. From small clubs to stadiums, we built something together that became part of popular culture.”

Though Kiss has officially retired from large-scale touring, both Simmons and Stanley have continued to explore new ways of connecting with fans, whether through one-off performances or immersive events.
