Lady Gaga has confirmed the release of her new single “The Dead Dance,” a song set to appear in Part Two of Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix. The track will debut on September 3, coinciding with the arrival of the final four episodes of the hit series.
The announcement came during Netflix and Spotify’s “Wednesday Graveyard Gala” in New York City last week. Gaga reposted a photo from the event on X, formerly Twitter, captioned, “DO THE DEAD DANCE! Sept 3.” She repeated the confirmation on stage before a crowd of fans and press. “I had a wonderful time working on Wednesday Season Two, even just being a small part of the show. I loved working with Tim Burton and Jenna and everyone here, it’s so incredible. Thank you,” she said. “I’m also here to confirm my song ‘The Dead Dance’ is coming.”
The single was previewed inside coffin-shaped listening booths at the event, giving attendees their first glimpse at the track. Gaga also appeared on stage with cast members Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, and Joy Sunday, as well as director Tim Burton, who has described her addition to the series as a natural fit.
Gaga joins the cast in Season 2 as Rosaline Rotwood, a new Nevermore Academy teacher shrouded in mystery. Her appearance had been the subject of speculation throughout the season’s promotion, fueled in part by her long-standing association with the show’s fandom.
Back in 2022, her song “Bloody Mary” became a viral TikTok hit tied to Ortega’s “Wednesday dance” scene, which led Gaga herself to post a video recreating the routine. That viral moment set the stage for her eventual involvement in the series, which Burton confirmed earlier this year. “She’s a real artist,” Burton said. “I’ve been a fan of her work for a long time, and having her step into this world felt seamless.”
Ortega also praised the casting at the gala, calling Gaga’s performance “surreal” and “like she was always meant to walk the halls of Nevermore.”
“The Dead Dance” is expected to be a central feature of Gaga’s Wednesday debut. Written in collaboration with producers Andrew Watt and Cirkut, the song is accompanied by a music video directed by Burton himself. The track marks Gaga’s first major soundtrack contribution since 2018’s A Star Is Born era, and it reflects her return to darker, theatrical aesthetics after her Chromatica and Mayhem projects.
The release ties directly into Wednesday Season 2 Part 2, which premieres globally on Netflix on September 3. Episodes five through eight are expected to expand on Wednesday Addams’ psychic journey, with teasers hinting at new threats and supernatural confrontations. A recently released trailer also teased an ominous voiceover, which fans believe belongs to Gaga’s character.
The announcement arrives in the middle of Gaga’s Mayhem Ball Tour, which has taken her across North America this summer. The trek will continue into Europe in October and November. Earlier this month, she also performed at Netflix’s Tudum event in São Paulo, Brazil, where she debuted new songs from her Mayhem album for a crowd of thousands.
