Shakira and Jason Aldean Shows Canceled at Fenway Just Hours Before Showtime

What was supposed to be one of the biggest music weekends in Boston turned into disappointment for thousands of fans. Concerts by Shakira and Jason Aldean at Fenway Park, scheduled for May 29 and 30, were canceled just hours before the shows were set to begin.
The reason: stage safety. According to Live Nation, a routine check before the show revealed that parts of the stage did not meet safety standards. There wasn’t enough time to fix the issues, so the decision was made to cancel both nights.
Shakira’s concert was part of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran world tour, her first in years and one of the most talked-about comebacks of the year. Aldean was set to share the stage with country duo Brooks & Dunn. Both shows were expected to bring huge crowds to the historic ballpark. Many fans had already traveled from other cities - some even flying in - when they learned the concerts wouldn’t be happening.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu addressed the decision, saying it was made “out of an abundance of caution.” She explained that safety has to come first, especially at large events. “There’s no room for risk when public safety is involved,” she said.
Refunds are being offered at the original point of purchase, but no details have been given about new dates or whether the shows will be rescheduled at all. For now, it seems both performances are simply canceled.
Fenway Park has become a major summer concert venue in recent years and is still planning to go ahead with upcoming shows by Hozier (June 23), The Lumineers, Thomas Rhett, the Jonas Brothers, and Chris Brown. So far, none of those dates are affected.
