Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” Featured in The Handmaid’s Tale

Taylor Swift’s re-recorded single “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” made its official debut in the ninth episode of The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6, which aired on May 19, 2025. The track plays during a pivotal moment when June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) leads a scene charged with tension and emotion.
The updated version of the 2017 hit maintains the original’s tone, but with richer production and more mature vocals. Elisabeth Moss, who also serves as an executive producer on the series, said both she and the cast had long hoped to include one of Swift’s songs in the show.
A Turning Point in Swift’s Career
“Look What You Made Me Do” was originally released in 2017 as the lead single from Reputation, a project that marked a dramatic shift in Swift’s public image. After facing intense media backlash and a highly publicized feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, Swift took a step back from the spotlight. was her response — an album that confronted criticism directly and explored themes of power, identity, and control.
With a darker sound, it challenged expectations and introduced a more private, self-protective version of Swift. Though initially divisive among critics, the album became a commercial success, debuting at No. 1 and selling over 1.2 million copies in its first week.
In 2019, Swift’s former label, Big Machine Records, was sold to Scooter Braun, transferring ownership of her first six album masters without her consent. In response, Swift began re-recording those albums to regain control of her catalog.
Each re-release, branded as “Taylor’s Version,” includes updated vocals and production, along with previously unreleased tracks written during the original sessions. So far, Fearless, RedSpeak Now, and 1989 have been released.
With “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” featured in The Handmaid’s Tale, speculation is building that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) could be released soon, potentially timed with the upcoming American Music Awards.
