Ed Sheeran has teamed up with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and guitarist John Mayer for a new track titled “Drive. " The track was created for the soundtrack of the upcoming Formula 1-inspired film F1, starring Brad Pitt. The song brings together three artists from different corners of the music world—pop, rock, and blues—for a rare collaboration set to debut alongside the film’s release on June 27, 2025.
Sheeran announced the project through Instagram, giving fans a short preview and sharing his excitement: “Mayer on guitar, Grohl on drums. A lot of fun making this—coming out next month with the movie.”
A Star-Packed Album and Film
The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Lewis Hamilton, and Brad Pitt. Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver who returns to the sport to help his old team by mentoring a young racer. The film was shot at real Formula 1 tracks during the 2023 and 2024 seasons and includes appearances from actual F1 drivers to add authenticity.
To accompany the film, F1: The Album features 17 original tracks from a wide range of artists, including Doja Cat, Rosé of BLACKPINK, Tate McRae, Don Toliver, Burna Boy, and Chris Stapleton. Atlantic Records and Apple Video Programming are releasing the album, which will be available in several formats: streaming, digital download, CD, vinyl, and cassette.
The soundtrack rollout began in April 2025 with the release of “Lose My Mind” by Don Toliver and Doja Cat. Produced by Hans Zimmer, Ryan Tedder, and Grant Boutin, the track was released alongside a fast-paced video filled with racing visuals. A week later, Rosé shared “Messy,” a more reflective song paired with a moody, cinematic video directed by Colin Tilley.
Filmed on real Formula 1 tracks and supported by a well-known cast and a varied soundtrack, F1 is set to be a big release this summer. With both the movie and album coming out on June 27, it’s already getting attention from music and racing fans alike.
