After nearly a decade of navigating fame, family, and an often unconventional love story, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have officially ended their engagement. People confirmed the split following an initial report by TMZ, closing the chapter on one of pop culture’s most high-profile relationships.

While neither Perry nor Bloom has issued a public statement, speculation about their relationship had already begun circulating in recent weeks. Reports that Bloom would be attending Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding alone only intensified questions. With no public appearances, no social media updates, and no comments from their representatives, it became increasingly clear that something had shifted behind the scenes.

Their story began in 2016, at a Golden Globes afterparty - over a burger, no less. As Perry once recalled, she had sent her security guard to fetch In-N-Out for her group. Suddenly, a hand appeared out of nowhere to snatch one. “All of a sudden, I see my boyfriend’s hand, he wasn’t even sitting at our table, he just swoops in and grabs it, and I was like, ‘Hey, that’s my burger!’” She told reporters later.

The couple dated for just over a year before announcing a “respectful, loving space” in 2017. However, the split was short-lived. By early 2018, they had rekindled their relationship. Bloom, then starring in a London production of Killer Joe, opened up to The Times about their connection, describing Perry as “a remarkable human being.” He admitted he hadn’t been familiar with her music career when they met, but their bond developed quickly. “You don’t pick who you fall in love with,” he said. “We had a really remarkable connection. And it’s difficult. She’s on tour, I’m doing a play. Everything evolves.”

Indeed, things did evolve. In 2019, Bloom proposed on Valentine’s Day, planning an elaborate night that included dinner, a surprise helicopter ride, and a rooftop party with friends and family waiting. Perry described the moment as “very sweet” and “thoughtful” during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The following year, they welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020. For both, it was a significant life change. Bloom was already a father to his son Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, and Perry was beginning a new phase of her life, juggling motherhood with her role on American Idol, business ventures, and the pressures of being one of pop’s most recognizable faces. Despite the demands of their respective careers, the couple appeared to embrace their growing family with joy and intention. While they continued to speak respectfully about each other, their once-visible connection gradually faded from view.

Though their engagement might've ended, Perry and Bloom remain connected through shared history and parenthood. The conclusion of their relationship marks a natural evolution in both their personal and professional lives.
