Lana Del Rey has offered one of her most candid interviews in recent memory, discussing her marriage, life in Louisiana, and the status of her forthcoming country album, Stove. Speaking with W magazine, the singer-songwriter revealed details about her relationship with husband Jeremy Dufrene, an airboat captain and alligator tour guide, while confirming that her long-planned album has been pushed back to early 2026.
Del Rey, who married Dufrene last fall, described him as “the most impactful person in my life.” The couple has since split their time between Louisiana and Los Angeles, with Del Rey spending much of the past year in the bayou. She also revealed that she wrote a song, “Stars Fell on Alabama,” about Dufrene. Although not officially released, the track has become a staple opener at her live shows.
“He’s quiet in public, but around me he talks all the time,” Del Rey said. She went on to describe the rhythm of their relationship, highlighting what they call “parking-lot time.” “We spend so much time in parking lots, just reading or talking in the car,” she explained. “Sometimes, in life, you think you’re the only one in the world who loves a particular thing, like sitting in an empty Macy’s or Home Depot parking lot. You might be really weird to some people, but then you find another soul who feels the same way.”
Relocating to Louisiana has also introduced Del Rey to aspects of her husband’s unique profession. Dufrene, she noted, regularly swims with alligators. “Louisiana has nicer alligators than Florida,” she joked. Del Rey added that she too has swum in the bayou waters, though “I don’t swim alone.”
The singer, known for weaving cinematic imagery into her music, said the experience of living in Louisiana has influenced both her perspective and her art, though her primary creative focus has remained on completing her next album.
Del Rey confirmed that Stove, her long-awaited country-inspired record, will not arrive until January 2026. Originally expected in spring 2025, the album was delayed after she decided to expand its scope.
“They were more autobiographical than I thought, and that took more time,” she said of the six additional songs she has written for the project. The record has been in development for several years, with sessions in Nashville alongside producer Luke Laird, known for his work with Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, and Little Big Town and with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff.
Del Rey emphasized that the majority of the tracks carry a country influence. “Eight years ago, when I was looking to make a country record, no one else was thinking about country,” she said. “Now everyone is going country! I’ve asked myself, Should I retire all my snakeskin boots? Should I put my cowboy hats in storage?”
The comments mark one of the most detailed updates Del Rey has provided on her artistic direction since the release of Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd in 2023. While her catalog has long incorporated elements of Americana and folk, Stove will be her first project deliberately rooted in country traditions.
Between her new marriage, her relocation to the Deep South, and the delay of a record that is shaping up to be among her most personal, Del Rey has signaled that her next chapter will combine domestic life and musical reinvention. For fans awaiting Stove, the wait may be longer than expected, but Del Rey suggests the time is being used to create something more expansive and revealing than originally planned.
