Lil Nas X, the Grammy-winning rapper and singer born Montero Hill, is currently receiving treatment at a facility out of state, according to statements made in a Los Angeles courtroom on Monday. The development comes less than a month after his high-profile arrest on multiple felony charges stemming from an incident in Studio City.
During the brief hearing, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Shellie Samuels confirmed that Hill would be permitted to remain outside California as long as he continues treatment. “Defendant is allowed to remain out of state as long as he remains in treatment,” Samuels told the court. The judge added that if Hill’s status shifts to outpatient care, the court would revisit the terms. At this stage, the nature of the treatment has not been disclosed publicly.
Hill’s legal troubles began on the morning of August 21, when Los Angeles police responded to reports of an individual behaving erratically on Ventura Boulevard. Prosecutors allege that Hill was “strolling naked” in the early hours when officers attempted to take him into custody. What followed, authorities say, was a physical altercation in which at least three officers sustained injuries.
Hill was charged with three felony counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one felony count of resisting an executive officer. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of five years in state prison.
Following his arrest, Hill was transported to a hospital for evaluation after police suspected a possible overdose. He remained there for several hours before being transferred to jail, where he spent the weekend. He was formally arraigned on August 25, pleading not guilty to all charges. He was subsequently released on $75,000 bond.
Shortly after regaining his freedom, Hill took to Instagram to reassure fans of his safety. In a Story post, he adopted his characteristically playful tone but acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. “Your girl is gonna be OK, y’all,” he said, laughing wearily. “That was terrifying. That was a terrifying last four days. But your girl is gonna be all right.”
While the performer tried to strike a lighthearted note, videos of the incident quickly circulated online, intensifying public concern. TMZ published clips showing Hill walking through Studio City wearing only underwear and cowboy boots. In one striking image, he appeared with an orange traffic cone perched on his head.
The incident did not come entirely without warning signs. In the days leading up to his arrest, Hill had posted a series of mirror selfies and snippets of unreleased music on Instagram. The posts, which some fans described as erratic, sparked concern for his well-being. His subsequent arrest, hospitalization, and current enrollment in treatment appear to confirm that those concerns were not unfounded.
For now, the case against Hill is pending, with future hearings expected later this year. His legal team has not commented on the specifics of his treatment but confirmed that he is complying with the court’s conditions.
The charges mark a dramatic turn for Lil Nas X, who first shot to fame in 2019 with the runaway success of “Old Town Road” and has since built a reputation as one of pop music’s most provocative and inventive stars.
