On Stitch Day, June 26, Disney released a teaser on social media announcing that a sequel to the Lilo & Stitch live-action film is in development. The video features Stitch driving around Disney Studios' backlots in a pink car, creating chaos and dropping clues with his "2Fast" license plate, stopping at Studio 2, and finally doing donuts spelling out Lilo & Stitch 2.

The announcement follows the record-breaking box office performance of the Lilo & Stitch live-action film. The movie secured the biggest four-day Memorial Day weekend opening ever with earnings of $182.6 million, surpassing the previous record held by Top Gun: Maverick, which brought in $160.5 million.

According to Box Office Mojo by IMDbPro, the film has earned a total of $915.9 million worldwide, with $391.6 million domestically and $524.3 million internationally, making it the second highest-grossing Motion Picture Association movie of the year, trailing only Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie, which earned $954 million.

Additionally, the Lilo & Stitch franchise drives substantial revenue from merchandise sales alone, with over $2.5 billion earned last year, according to Deadline, making it one of Disney's most lucrative intellectual properties.

Details regarding the creative team, cast, and production timeline for Lilo & Stitch 2 have not yet been officially announced.
