Sabrina Carpenter has announced her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, arriving August 29 via Island Records. The release date, exactly one year after 2024’s Short n’ Sweet, marks a full-circle moment for the singer-songwriter, whose career has seen a dramatic ascension over the past 12 months, from chart-topping singles to Grammy wins and sold-out festival sets.

The new album’s lead single, “Manchild,” dropped June 5 and quickly shot to the top of Spotify’s U.S. chart. Co-written and co-produced with Jack Antonoff and Amy Allen, the track blends country-pop undertones, with a pointed take on emotional immaturity and failed relationships, with the same self-aware wit that made hits like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” viral sensations.

“This song is a loving eye-roll,” Carpenter said in a press statement. “It’s a little petty, but mostly just honest.” She debuted the track live at Primavera Sound in Barcelona on June 6, where it was met with an enthusiastic reception and cemented her status as a commanding pop performer.

The album’s cover art features Carpenter on all fours in stilettos and a black mini dress, while a man, whose face is cropped out of frame, pulls her hair from behind. The provocative image, clearly designed to spark conversation, did exactly that. While some fans saw it as a subversive visual pun on the album’s title, others called it degrading and out of step with Carpenter’s typically lighthearted, empowered persona.

Still, the discourse only seems to be amplifying the album’s early visibility. Man’s Best Friend arrives in the midst of a breakout year for Carpenter. Short n’ Sweet delivered multiple platinum-certified tracks, earning her two Grammy Awards.

While the full tracklist has yet to be revealed, Man’s Best Friend is expected to continue Carpenter’s exploration of self-image, heartbreak, power dynamics, and pop stardom itself. In recent interviews, she’s hinted at themes of “delusion and control,” suggesting a project that blends satire with sincerity.

To support the release, Carpenter will continue an extensive run of live dates throughout the summer. She’s scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, in addition to select headline shows in London and Los Angeles. A full North American tour is expected to be announced later this year.
