Slipknot to Release 25th Anniversary Edition of Debut Album Featuring Over 40 Unreleased Tracks

Slipknot is marking 25 years since the release of their groundbreaking self-titled debut album with a comprehensive reissue packed with rare and unreleased material. Set for release on September 5, the Slipknot (25th Anniversary Edition) will feature more than 40 previously unheard recordings, offering a deep dive into the early creative period of the influential metal band.
Originally released in June 1999, Slipknot propelled the nine-member group from Des Moines, Iowa, into the global metal spotlight. Fusing aggressive, genre-blurring compositions with an intense live presence and masked personas, the band’s debut quickly earned a cult following and eventually achieved multi-platinum status. The 25th anniversary edition revisits that formative era, compiling a wealth of archival material from the band's early studio sessions and live performances.
The reissue will be available in multiple physical and digital formats, including a deluxe six-LP vinyl box set, a two-LP standard version, a two-CD edition, and digital download. The six-LP edition includes the original Slipknot album, two LPs of recordings from the 1998 sessions at Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, and a full disc of pre-studio demos. Rounding out the box set are live recordings from two pivotal performances: five tracks from a 1999 show in Hartford, Connecticut, and a selection of songs from the band’s UK tour in 2000.
In advance of the full release, the band has shared the original demo of “Prosthetics,” a track that would later appear in a more refined form on their debut album. The early version offers a raw glimpse into Slipknot’s creative process before they entered the studio to record the final LP.
Reflecting on the album’s impact, guitarist Jim Root acknowledged the band’s modest expectations at the time. “We loved what we did with the first record, but we didn’t even know if there was gonna be anything after that,” Root said in a statement. “We just wanted people to hear it. Selling out of records and shows, having successful tours, those are goals for any band. But the dream scenario, in some ways, came true for us.”
Among the most buzzed-about items in the reissue campaign was an ultra-limited edition box set featuring “blood-filled” vinyl, limited to just 100 copies. Sold exclusively through a private website prior to the official announcement, the set sold out almost immediately, underscoring the continued enthusiasm of Slipknot’s fanbase.
