Young Thug Wins Court Ruling for Return of Cash, Cars, and Jewelry Seized in YSL Case

Atlanta rapper Young Thug has scored a legal victory in his long-running YSL case, winning the right to reclaim cash, cars, and jewelry that were seized from him more than two years ago. On Monday, his attorney confirmed that a Fulton County judge granted the return of roughly $145,000 in cash, four vehicles, and dozens of pieces of jewelry that authorities had held since 2022.
Brian Steel, the rapper’s longtime lawyer, said the items include a Chevrolet Corvette, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a Dodge Durango, and a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle. In addition, Young Thug, born Jeffery Williams, is set to recover 72 pieces of jewelry taken from his home during a search on May 9, 2022, when prosecutors first brought sweeping charges against him and other alleged members of the YSL collective.
The order came from Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, who cited case law and statutory requirements in her decision. “I think that the court has no option under the case law and the statute but to grant this dismissal, so the dismissal is granted,” Judge Whitaker said during Monday’s proceedings, according to Billboard.
The ruling clears the way for Young Thug’s belongings to be returned, although prosecutors may still delay the process. The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has suggested it could appeal, which would temporarily halt the release of the seized property.
Deputy District Attorney Jeff DiSantis told Atlanta’s Fox affiliate that his office was surprised by the ruling. “We are perplexed that Judge Whitaker dismissed the case based on a timeline requested by defense counsel and a date the court set for trial,” DiSantis said. “We are evaluating the case now for possible appeal, considering that strange procedural history.”
Some of Young Thug’s property had already been returned before Monday’s order. Still, the bulk of his assets, particularly the cash, vehicles, and jewelry, had remained in government custody for over two years.
Young Thug’s legal battles have drawn national attention since his May 2022 arrest, when prosecutors alleged that his YSL collective doubled as a violent street gang. He faced charges under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, as well as multiple counts tied to alleged criminal activity.
In October 2024, the rapper entered a plea deal that ended his trial abruptly. He pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and was sentenced to time served, 15 years of probation, and a 20-year “backloaded” consecutive sentence that would only take effect if he violated probation. The deal allowed him to walk free after more than two years behind bars.
At the time, Young Thug said he was motivated less by guilt than by pragmatism. Speaking to GQ earlier this summer, he maintained his innocence but said the plea gave him a chance to move forward. “Just pleading to something you know that you didn’t do is crazy,” he said. “But you get a chance to keep fighting. [You can] worry about the jury’s fate, or you [can] just go ahead now and go home. It’s like shit. Go home.”
