Charli XCX and George Daniel Marry in Intimate London Ceremony

Charli XCX and George Daniel of The 1975 have officially tied the knot. The couple, who got engaged in late 2023, were married on Saturday, July 20, in an understated ceremony at Hackney Town Hall in London, according to photos and reports that surfaced over the weekend.
The wedding comes nearly 19 months after the two artists began their public relationship, and just eight months after announcing their engagement. The ceremony was reportedly a small, private affair attended by family, close friends, and several members of Daniel’s band, The 1975. Fans first learned of the nuptials after images of the couple in wedding attire began appearing on social media, with attendees posting glimpses of the town hall gathering.
While the couple had previously been rumored to be planning a more elaborate destination wedding in Sicily, Italy, they appear to have opted for a more intimate event closer to home. Earlier reports, including those from The Sun, suggested that Charli and George had fallen in love with the Italian island and were planning an extravagant celebration there, “Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there,” a source said at the time. “It’s incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared.”
Instead, the newlyweds chose a significantly lower-key setting in East London, surprising fans who may have expected a Brat-era-sized blowout in line with Charli’s recent pop culture dominance. The decision to scale back may reflect the couple’s desire to keep the moment private, especially after an intensely public year for both artists.
Charli XCX - born Charlotte Aitchison, is currently in the midst of one of the most commercially and critically successful phases of her career. Her sixth studio album, Brat, released in June 2024, debuted to widespread acclaim and chart success. George Daniel, drummer and producer for The 1975, has also remained a prominent figure in the music world, both through his work with the band and as a producer for artists like Beabadoobee, No Rome, and Charli herself. The couple initially met while collaborating on No Rome’s 2021 single “Spinning,” which featured both Charli XCX and The 1975. Their creative partnership soon evolved into a romantic relationship, and they began dating in 2022.
In interviews, Charli has spoken candidly about the challenges and rewards of working closely with a romantic partner. “We want to impress each other, and we think we’re both really good, but I’m actually such a b*tch in the studio with George,” she told Rolling Stone UK earlier this year. “Because we’re obviously so close, you lose everything in terms of the normal studio boundaries.”
As of now, neither Charli XCX nor George Daniel has issued an official statement about the wedding. Still, their fans have taken to social media to celebrate the news, sharing congratulations and revisiting the couple’s collaborative work. Whether the pair still plan to host a larger celebration in Italy or elsewhere remains to be seen.
