Lifetime is moving forward with a new “Ripped From the Headlines” feature based on one of the most widely followed true crime cases of the decade. The Idaho Murders (working title) will dramatize the 2022 killings of four University of Idaho students, with actor Miles Merry set to portray convicted murderer Bryan Kohberger.
The film revisits the events of November 13, 2022, when Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin were found dead in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho. The story follows the investigative team as they piece together evidence from the shocking crime, ultimately tracing the case back to Kohberger, a reserved criminology PhD student whose actions stunned the community. His arrest and later guilty plea brought national attention to the small college town and provided long-awaited justice for the victims’ families.
Merry, known for his role in Netflix’s Untamed, leads the cast under the direction of Steven A. Adelson. The script is written by Michael Vickerman, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Timothy O. Johnson and Stacy Mandelberg. Navid Soofi produces the film for PF Pine Productions Inc. in association with Studio TF1 America. Production is scheduled to begin this month.
Kohberger, who was arrested in December 2022 following a multi-state investigation, pleaded guilty earlier this year to four counts of murder and one count of burglary. He received four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole and an additional ten years for burglary. He is currently incarcerated at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution in Kuna, a high-security facility that holds some of the state’s most serious offenders.
This will be Merry’s third collaboration with Lifetime’s true crime anthology, following his appearances in Devil on Campus: The Larry Ray Story (2024) alongside Billy Zane and Elisabeth Röhm, and Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez (2022) starring Lindsay Navarro and Ben Savage. Outside of Lifetime, Merry has been featured in Firefly Lane and Untamed on Netflix, The Irrational on NBC, and So Help Me ToddFire Country for CBS.
