Netflix has ordered a new competition series based on Clue, the iconic murder mystery board game and 1985 cult film. The unscripted show will turn the game’s signature intrigue into a live contest where players must use logic, teamwork, and strategy to solve a fictional crime.
In the upcoming series, contestants will complete physical and mental challenges to collect evidence before entering a real-life mystery environment. To advance, they must correctly determine the who, where, and with what of the case. Accurate guesses add money to the prize pool, while incorrect ones could send players home. Familiar figures such as Colonel Mustard, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, and Mrs. White will make appearances, along with intentional red herrings meant to mislead.
The show is produced by Hasbro Entertainment in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation and B17 Entertainment. Sony acquired the rights to the Clue franchise in 2024, expanding its library of competition and game-based programming.
In an interview with Deadline, Jeff Gaspin, Netflix’s vice president of unscripted series, said the goal is to reimagine a game that has brought people together for decades. He called the project a “new kind of mystery competition” designed to immerse modern audiences in the world of Clue.
Hasbro Entertainment continues to expand its television and film portfolio, with projects such as a Dungeons & Dragons series in development at Netflix and upcoming adaptations of Magic: The Gathering, Trivial Pursuit, and Scrabble. The company is also partnering with the streamer on a separate Monopoly competition series.
For Netflix, the adaptation extends a growing lineup of reality-based shows built around well-known brands. The platform has found success with titles like Squid Game: The Challenge, Love Is Blind, and the upcoming Golden Ticket, inspired by Willy Wonka.
Since its debut in 1949, the board game has sold more than 150 million copies worldwide and remains one of the most recognizable names in gaming. The 1985 film adaptation directed by Jonathan Lynn, featuring Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, and Christopher Lloyd, became a cult favorite known for its humor and multiple endings. Several film and television adaptations have been attempted over the years, but none have reached audiences on this scale.
