The “Night at the Museum” franchise is coming back to life.

20th Century Studios has begun developing a reimagined installment of the beloved family series, with screenwriter Tripper Clancy tapped to write the script. The project will be produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine of 21 Laps Entertainment, the same team behind the original trilogy. While plot details remain under wraps, the film is expected to introduce a new storyline and characters set in the museum world that launched the original 2006 hit.

Emily Morris will oversee the project for 21 Laps. Clancy, a frequent collaborator with the company, previously co-executive produced Netflix’s I Am Not Okay With This and has writing credits on Stuber, Die Hart, and its sequel Die Harter.

The original Night at the Museum trilogy, based on Milan Trenc’s 1993 children’s book, starred Ben Stiller as Larry Daley, a night guard who discovers the museum’s exhibits come to life after dark. Directed by Levy, the three live-action films collectively grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide. An animated spinoff, Kahmunrah Rises Again, debuted on Disney+ in 2022 with a new voice cast.

The upcoming reboot marks the latest expansion of the franchise under Disney’s ownership of 20th Century Studios. It also follows a strong year for 21 Laps, which recently celebrated record success with Deadpool & Wolverine and continues to develop high-profile projects for Netflix, including the final season of Stranger Things and a Madonna limited series.
