The Shelby family is returning to television. A sequel to Peaky Blinders has been given a two-season order at Netflix and the BBC, continuing creator Steven Knight’s saga with a new generation set in 1953 Britain.

While the cast remains under wraps, original star Cillian Murphy is confirmed to return as an executive producer. The project marks the next chapter for the franchise, which ended its six-season run in 2022.

According to an official description, the series will explore postwar Birmingham, a city attempting to rebuild after the devastation of World War II. “After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel,” it reads. “The race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions… with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

The sequel will be produced by Kudos, known for SAS Rogue Heroes and House of Guinness, alongside Garrison Drama, which produced the original series and is behind the upcoming Peaky Blinders film. Filming is set to take place in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc. Studios. Each of the two seasons will consist of six hour-long episodes.

“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” Knight said in a statement. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

The production is backed by an extensive team of executive producers, including Knight, Murphy, Karen Wilson, and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for the BBC, and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix.

Fans will also see the Shelbys on the big screen soon. A feature film titled The Immortal Man is expected to be released in early 2026. Written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, the movie will star Murphy alongside Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan. It is anticipated to continue the story directly from the end of the original series.
