Sixteen years after their explosive breakup, Oasis officially reunited on Friday night (July 4) with a sold-out performance at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, marking one of the most anticipated comebacks in rock history.

The night opened with “Hello,” the lead track from their 1995 album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, followed by “Acquiesce” and “Morning Glory.” From there, the setlist moved seamlessly between fan favorites like “Bring It On Down,” “Little By Little,” and “Cast No Shadow,” and 90’s anthems including “Supersonic,” “Live Forever,” and “Rock ‘n’ Roll Star”, closing the night with a powerful trio: “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Wonderwall,” and “Champagne Supernova.”

The performance marked Oasis’ first live appearance since August 22, 2009, when they played the V Festival in Weston Park, England before their infamous fight a week later in Rock en Seine, where they were scheduled to headline and ended up fighting island; According to Liam, Noel “started wielding [a guitar] like an ax” during an argument, nearly hitting him. That night, Noel issued a statement: “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight… I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

In the years following the split, the brothers pursued separate musical paths and exchanged public insults. “I’d rather eat my own sh*t than be in a band with him again,” Liam told LA Weekly in 2011. Noel, meanwhile, remained firm in his stance against a reunion, telling the Pub Talk podcast in 2022, “If we got back together, there would be a circus and there’s no point. Just leave it as it is.”

Still, rumors of a reconciliation began to surface in 2024. By the end of the year, the band confirmed its return in a cryptic but hopeful statement:

“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

Since the announcement, the Gallagher brothers have declined press interviews and refused to officially reveal the full lineup.

However, a leak to NME in March reported that the reunion tour band would feature guitarist Gem Archer, original member Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, bassist Andy Bell, and drummer Joey Waronker. Liam responded to the leak on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “NME tell me who your source pots are that keep giving you info about Oasis and I’ll give you an exclusive interview about up n coming Oasis tour.”

With the opening night in Cardiff behind them, Oasis will play a second show at Principality Stadium on Saturday before touring the UK and Ireland throughout the summer. The North American leg of the tour begins August 24 in Toronto. The final date currently scheduled is November 23 in São Paulo, Brazil.
