Katie Holmes will reunite with longtime collaborator Joshua Jackson in Happy Hours, a new film trilogy she is set to write, direct, and star in. Production on the first installment begins later this summer in New York City, with the remaining two films expected to follow in close succession.

The project marks a return to shared screen time for Holmes and Jackson, who appeared together in Dawson’s Creek. In Happy Hours, they portray two people navigating the emotional landscape of adult relationships shaped by work, family, and the passage of time. The films will explore themes of reconnection, loss, and enduring affection, framed as a character-driven blend of drama and comedy.

The cast also includes Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin.

The trilogy is being produced by Maven Screen Media and Bond Street Station, in collaboration with Crown Productions and STX Films. Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler are producing for Maven, with Peter Coleman and Paula P. Manzanedo representing Bond Street Station. Annie Herndon will oversee the production for STX Films, while Jenny Halper, Sophia Pedlow, and Jackie Donohoe are managing for Maven.

Holmes, known for her performances in Batman Begins, The Ice Storm, and Pieces of April, has previously directed and acted in independent films including Rare ObjectsAlone TogetherAll We Had. Jackson was recently featured in Doctor Odyssey and appeared in Karate Kid: Legends alongside Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
